In this section, you'll find resources for advisers and individuals trying to access support. If you don't know where to start, or are overwhelmed by the information, we recommend starting with our Guide to Section 17 Support (aimed at families with NRPF) or our Section 17 factsheet (aimed at professionals).

Section 17 of Children Act 1989 states that the local authority has a responsibility towards children 'in need' in their area. It is a form of support available from social services and is available to everyone, including to families who have NRPF.

If you're working with a family who has been refused section 17 or is receiving inadequate support, click here to find out how to challenge this.

Click here for more information about other forms of support open to families with NRPF.

Click here for resources on immigration processes that may be relevant to families with NRPF, such as Change of Conditions and Migrant Victims of Domestic Abuse Concession.

View our NRPF Toolkit here, which uses a human rights approach to explain the no recourse to public funds (NRPF) rule and its implications for child welfare and social work practice.
